Espresso-XOC's History
Premium Organic Cacao for Modern Living

The Origins
Espresso-XOC is rooted in an ancient tradition. The Aztec ceremonial cacao drink xocōlātl — the origin of modern chocolate — was once consumed for its powerful taste, natural energy, and well-being properties. This historic cacao beverage was "rediscovered" by Kaj during his years in South America, where he worked with food production and dairy development while immersing himself in the local cacao culture.
Encountering authentic, minimally processed cacao — known for its deep flavor profile and naturally occurring nutrients — this inspired Kaj to formulate a long-term vision: to recreate and refine the original cacao drink for a modern, health-conscious lifestyle. That vision became Espresso-XOC.
Organic Cacao
Espresso-XOC is a premium cacao-based beverage made with carefully selected, organic ingredients of the highest quality. Our fine-grade cacao is sourced directly from South America and gently processed to preserve its natural flavor, character, and functional properties.
Espresso-XOC is designed to be both quick and simple to prepare. It comes as pure, raw cacao in its natural form – nothing added, nothing removed. When preparing it, you have complete freedom to adapt the drink to your own preferences. Flavour it with warming spices such as cinnamon and cardamom or a pinch of chilli, sweeten it with honey or raw sugar, or experiment with milk, oat drink or coconut water. There is no right or wrong. That said, many of our customers – like ourselves – choose to enjoy it completely plain, to experience the authentic, original character of cacao.
From Ancient Wisdom to Everyday Life
Cacao wasn't consumed as a supplement in traditional cultures — it was part of daily life. At Espresso-XOC, we believe that's the future of functional food: Simple. Honest. Rooted in nature.
Cacao isn't a trend. It's a rediscovery. And Espresso-XOC exists to make that rediscovery delicious, accessible, and relevant — one cup at a time.
Our Pure Cacao — Grown with Respect for People and Nature

Our pure cacao is cultivated high in the Andes, in one of the world's most biodiverse and breathtaking regions. Behind our cacao stands a family-owned company with more than 20 years of experience, specializing in producing organically sustainable fine cacao throughout the entire value chain — from cultivation to finished products.
The cacao is sourced from small-scale family farms and cooperatives where farmers are paid fairly for their work. Child labor is strictly prohibited. The cacao grows on high-altitude mountain slopes overlooking vast, jungle-like landscapes, where cultivation takes place in harmony with nature.
After harvest, the cacao is delivered to strategically located processing centers to minimize environmental impact and reduce transportation distances. Handling follows traditional methods, with great care and respect for the raw material.
Sustainability in Three Dimensions
The work is guided by a clear sustainability strategy built on three equally important pillars: social sustainability, economic sustainability, and environmental sustainability. A long-term roadmap ensures that natural resources are preserved for future generations, while people throughout the value chain are provided with fair, secure, and dignified working conditions.
Strong Commitment to Women Farmers
Special emphasis is placed on empowering women within cacao farming. Female growers receive additional training, coaching, and technical support, as well as assistance with access to tools and equipment. All farmers are guaranteed an annual return on their cacao, creating financial stability and long-term security.
Job Security, Education, and Community Investment
A portion of profits is reinvested into local communities. This includes initiatives such as providing rural schools with access to running water and indoor sanitation, offering training and certification programs for farmers, and ensuring that workers in later production stages benefit from job security, healthcare, and education opportunities. Gender equality is a core value, and active efforts are made to encourage more women to pursue new career paths and leadership roles. Sustainability goals are reviewed annually, and a report is published each year to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
